A brief history of: Nike

Starting from very humble beginnings, almost 50 years ago, to now as the worlds largest supplier of athletic shoes and apparel, Nike has been on an incredible journey. In January 1964, a young track athlete at the University of Oregon named Phil Knight, and his coach Bill Bowerman started Blue Ribbon Sports. Out the back of Knight's car the company operated as a distributor of Onitsuka Tiger trainers.

In the early 1970's Blue Ribbon was preparing to launch it's own line of sports footwear. The iconic 'swoosh' was first used by Blue Ribbon/Nike in June 1971 and it wasn't till 1978 that the company actually became Nike Inc.

Since then  Nike has grown year on year with its strategic sponsorship of the world's finest athletes and timeless designs. Today Nike employs over 30,000 people and quite literally makes billions of dollars year on year.

Everyday trainers are an essential. They're are the essential for any streetwear connoisseur's wardrobe. SS/11 saw some great examples of the finest Nike footwear. Check out the pictures featured by hypebeast.com of the Liberty x Nike Summer Collection - a real treat!

Looking around for a new pair for this Autumn there is no better place to look than the men's Nike range on JDsports.co.uk They have a HUGE collection of all sporting and streetwear apparel! I'm a big fan of simplicity, I've always loved the all white Air Force 1's and the classic Dunks - all proudly representing the 'swoosh'. These designs as well as many many more can all be found online and instore. Very reasonable prices with regular sales and reductions ensure that you can get your hands on some really good deals - be sure to check them out when you can!
